Building Community is Our Most Powerful Tool Against Trump’s Fascism

Statement from Community Change Action Co-President Dorian Warren on November 5, 2024 Election Results:

“As we process an array of emotions–from fear to disbelief to sadness–at the election results, we are also reminding ourselves that we’ve got us. The communities we build are our most powerful tool against Trump’s fascism.

Trump and MAGA extremists are the villains of our multi-racial democracy, who leverage undemocratic tactics and rely on billionaire surrogates who wield their economic power to support racist rallies and spread disinformation. They want to control everything from what our families look like to how much economic power we’re allowed to have. It’s on us to demand and hold the line on policies that help all of us thrive – no matter what we look like, where we come from, or who we love. Our freedoms are worth fighting for.

Community Change Action/Voters and our partners held nearly 2.5 million conversations with voters who are too often left out of the conversation by political parties. Despite the election results, Black, Latino, and AAPI voters in our program turned out early at higher rates than statewide numbers. We will continue to organize these communities beyond election cycles and use every lever of power we have to fight for our future.

Everyone has a role to play in our democracy. Whether you pledge to show up at an action to stop deportations, bring a meal to your neighbor you know is struggling, collect resources to share with your group chat, lend an ear to a stressed-out friend, or share your story to connect with a stranger, what you do in this moment matters.

Together, we are stronger than racist extremists and corporate greed. We can defend healthcare access in our states, fight for affordable child care, and demand our leaders prioritize families and ordinary Americans, not billionaires. Together, we’ve got us.”
