Today, Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden announced Senator Kamala Harris to be his running mate on the ballot this November. Lorella Praeli, President of Community Change Action and Dorian Warren, Vice President of Community Change Action, issued the following statement in response:
“Congratulations to Senator Kamala Harris on her nomination to be the next Vice President of our country. Senator Harris has promised to make Black and immigrant communities a priority and work closely with them to come up with bold solutions to the toughest problems. Her commitment to fighting racial inequities throughout her tenure in the U.S. Senate is a stark contrast to the current administration’s playbook of destruction and racism.
Black women voters have turned out in droves in the past to elect candidates who prioritize the health, safety and dignity of all of our families. Representation matters and it’s high time we have the first Black and South Asian woman Vice President of the United States.
At Community Change Action we have already talked to 1.6 million voters in key battleground states to ensure we elect a new administration who will fight alongside our families. In 2017, our families helped turn Virginia blue; then we helped flip the House in 2018. Our voices have helped transform this country to one where we can all thrive. This November won’t be any different.”
