Wisconsinites Vote for Progressive Candidates Down Ballot
Tonight, election officials in Wisconsin began counting votes and announcing the results of last week’s primary election. Voces de la Frontera Action, in partnership with Community Change Action, made more than 21,000 phone calls and reached thousands more through targeted text outreach and relational engagement. As part of the joint effort, the groups also invested in Spanish-language radio ads, and GOTV digital ads leading up to the primary.
Of the candidates endorsed by Voces de la Frontera Action, Jill Karofsky won a seat in the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Edwin Santiago, Jr. won his race as the 2nd Latino and first Puertorican elected to the city of Racine, and JoCasta Zamarripa won her seat as the representative for the 8th Assembly district. Full list of endorsed candidates.
Grecia Lima, national political director of Community Change Action, added:
“Tonight’s election results show that Wisconsinites want a change, especially at the local level. Progressive candidates won up and down the ticket and voters were heard. Last week’s action by Republicans unnecessarily put millions of Wisconsinites in danger. It’s unacceptable. We need fair elections that keep everyone safe. We need automatic voter registration and a mail-in ballot for all voters. The Presidential election is rapidly approaching and our voters–pro-immigrant, progressive voters, black and brown voters–are ready to take the country in a new direction. We will continue our efforts with our partners nationally to engage and empower our community in November.”
