Community Change Action Co-President Dorian Warren issued the following quote responding to the Senate’s vote to reopen the federal government:
“People are hungry, both literally and figuratively, and they’re paying attention to which leaders are fighting for them.
On the heels of an election that showed people want leaders who will hold Republicans and Trump accountable, Republicans doubled down on causing people tremendous pain–pushing through cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, refusing to extend health care subsidies, and shutting the government down.
We need a healthcare system that works for all of us. We need elected officials to put forth a tangible plan to fix the systems that are keeping so many people behind, rather than kicking the can down the road. We deserve an economy that works for everyone.
No more upholding the status quo and pandering to the whims of billionaires. Americans are at a breaking point and this moment requires moral clarity from our leaders to end the suffering.
It’s disappointing and infuriating to see a funding bill that does not protect the health care subsidies tens of millions of people need. We will keep fighting to ensure every person can live a life with dignity.”
