1500+ Parents & Childcare Providers To Strike for Universal Child Care on Community Change Action’s Fifth Annual National “Day Without Child Care”

  • Press Release
  • Child Care

On May 11th, parents and providers nationwide are closing their doors, calling out, and joining 76 events in over 28 states to demand the universal childcare system we deserve.

Nationwide – On May 11th, we’re going on strike to launch the nationwide campaign that will win universal child care. As families face a worsening affordability crisis and child care costs are outpacing rent, providers have been shouldering the burden. Now, our communities are being directly attacked by ICE agents, and the administration is scapegoating Somali providers. We can’t wait a second longer to create the universal childcare system we deserve – one that actually works, lifts the burden off of families and providers, and invests in our youngest generation to give them the strongest start possible

With over 76 events in 28 states, 1500+ people will make our demands clear to policymakers: a universal childcare system for every child and family, with thriving wages for early childhood educators, and built on racial and gender equity. Thousands of providers and parents from every corner of the country plan to close our doors and call out to make sure these demands are heard. This year builds on last year’s historic day of action, which was the largest one-day work stoppage in childcare organizing ever

We’ve built an undeniable movement that will deliver the 21st-century childcare system we deserve – a system built by parents and providers, for parents and providers. While politicians have made decisions that make our lives and our care system worse, families and providers have been working together in states to make universal child care a reality. Now, together, building on the organizing we’ve been doing nationwide for decades, we bring the fight to the national stage.
